Master's Message
November 2007
Dear Brethren,
The Trestleboard. A draftsman's designing board; that on which a Mason draws his designs for his character and spiritual growth; that on which the Worshipful Master lays out his designs for the workmen; a lodge newsletter and calendar of events. The Trestleboard is quite an interesting word. In ancient times, the Trestleboard was used by our Operative Grand Master to lay down his designs for the construction of King Solomon's Temple. Today the Trestleboard is the vehicle used by the Worshipful Master to keep his brethren well informed of lodge and district events. I truly believe that there is another meaning to the word Trestleboard. Some may call it the mind or conscience, some call it the soul. All of our thoughts, actions, and deeds are recorded in this personal Trestleboard, and it will be read when we stand before our Creator. Freemasonry often describes itself as an institution with a primary goal of making good men better men. In order to make yourself a better man, you must have a plan for a life well spent, for we know that the lack of a design will cause confusion in the Temple. Your plan for a life well spent must be constantly reviewed, however, for it may change as your situation or circumstances change. A wealthy man might make a large monetary contribution to a charity, and this act may add a very small stone to his Temple, while a person of limited financial means with help an elderly brother or neighbor and this act might build a large portion of his spiritual Temple. Live your life according to the most excellent tenets of our Institution, and you will dwell for eternity in "that house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens."
Fraternally,
James T. Lind
Worshipful Master
