Master's Message
June 2006
Dear Brethren,
As we now approach our summer break, I often heard this period referred to as a time when the Lodge goes “dark.” I find this to be a very unfortunate choice of words. While we might turn off the lights, the Lodge never truly goes dark for the Lodge is our hearts, souls and minds, and not a physical building. The work of Masons is a commitment that we are responsible for twenty four hours a day, three hundred and sixty five days a year. While we all enjoy a short break from the Lodge duties during the busy summer season, Freemasonry is not a seasonal activity. Too often the duties that we have heard so frequently inculcated and forcibly recommended are forgotten when there is this period of inactivity of formal Lodge events. The solemn obligations you made at our Altar should influence your actions, words, and deeds at all times, and if they do not, perhaps your Lodge, your inner self, has gone dark. Remember, Brethren, the pure principles of morality, brotherly love, and charity never takes a vacation. Make sure the light is always burning brightly in your Lodge.
Fraternally,
James T. Lind
Worshipful Master
