Master's Message
February 2006

Dear Brethren,

What is a Master Mason? Have you ever asked yourself this question? Do you know? Is a Master Mason a man with a flair for memorization? Is a Master Mason a man who can recite lectures and charges flawlessly? Is a Master Mason a man with a chest full of bars, a Past Master's apron, or perhaps a Right Worshipful title in front of his name? I, in no way or form wish to trivialize or minimize the importance of our rituals, for they are the link that binds us to our century's old craft, but remember Brethren, ritual is but one facet of the jewel that we call Freemasonry.

Freemasonry is truly a code of conduct for our lives. Is a brother who struggles with ritual, but shovels snow for a disabled neighbor, or checks in with an older brother just to say hello, any less of a Mason? I think not! Our great fraternity is often referred to as a gentle craft, and as such, a benevolent brother should reach out to assist those who might find ritual difficult, and realize that some who are true Masons in their hearts, may never become a ritualist. Remember Brethren, Freemasonry comes from the heart.

Fraternally,
James T. Lind
Worshipful Master
